Custom hand made wooden dolls from Pop culture, musicians, and artists. Illustrations and paintings with a punk/junk flair. I will bring my supplies and paint there and even have a few dolls showing each step of the process.
The Atlanta-based MAMA Art Collective was founded in the Spring of 2013 by a few crafty, community seeking women with young kids. After hearing about the Berkeley Hacker Mom space, we couldn’t help but want our own.
We’ve built a place to create, explore DIY design and craft, and kickstart creative businesses as well as a supportive community for both our artistic and motherhood journeys. While we do all of that, our kids are right down the hall with a supervising mother playing with all of their new friends.
Clue Town Books are a series of ready-to-solve scavenger hunts located in walkable areas of Atlanta, Georgia (Piedmont Park, Oakland Cemetery, and Downtown Decatur). Hunters use landmarks to solve puzzles. The solutions to those puzzles reveal how to get to the next checkpoint.
The hands-on activity for Mini Maker Faire is a mini-hunt at the booth, solving a game or two that lead hunters to a hidden QR code (or cookie) at the table. I would also be excited to explain to attendees my process for creating scavenger hunts.
Handmade, one of a kind glass items made using a 2000 degree torch for melting glass rods and other types of glass. Jewelry, sculpture, whimsical home items and blown glass ornaments. Marcy will be bringing her hothead torch and will be doing lampwork across the course of the day so you can see how you start with glass rods and end with beautiful glass beads.
The Red Mountain Makers of Birmingham have made and launched paper rockets. They take as little as 5 minutes to make and launch using compressed air to an altitude of about 200 feet depending on the pressure used. We have done these at PlayOn Con here in Birmingham and this was a very popular activity. This is simple enough for kids to make and interesting enough for adults also. I attended the Atlanta Mini Maker Faire last year and this event would be a crowd pleaser. The rockets are basically made from a piece of typing paper and tape. We want to have a booth at the faire and we would need a launch area also that is somewhat away from the crowds. We provide rockets.
WonderRoot Creative Reuse is a project of WonderRoot based in Atlanta, GA. The purpose of our program is to promote artistic expression, environmental awareness and community through the collection and redistribution of salvaged materials for creative reuse.
I will be bringing t-shirt fabric remnants to make t-shirt flowers that can be used as a hair accessory or as a decorative element.
Paint Pulse is a project which seeks to build upon the water marbling crafts of Ebru and Suminagashi with digital behavioral additions. The idea is to design intricate, flowing patterns of paint directly on the surface of water which you can capture on the surface of paper. Expert crafters can hold an intricate mastery over the art and produce incredible results. Our goal was to add additional digital elements to the craft which would afford new means of expression without fundamentally altering the interaction. Thus experts would be able to retain their mastery while exploring new possibilities for the art.
Participants can come by when we exhibit and make their own psychedelic/half magnetic water surface paintings
This was made as part of the digital craft research we do in our project studio as part of the Digital World and Image Group by Colton Spross, Andrew Quitmeyer, and Adam Rafinski. In our lab we explore modes of digital intervention in performance, space, and craft in order to create novel interactions between people and their environments.
