We are makers: dinner-makers, costume-makers, rainy-day-activity makers. We teach our kids to look for creative ways to engage with their environment, to be makers of forts and make-believe worlds. We like to watch our kids craft everything from cardboard box houses to intricate habitats for imaginary friends. We also spend a lot of time creating art projects with our kids. We created Kith & Kin to make it easy for busy parents to connect with their kids through art. No hassle. Just playful, creative time together. Before we created Kith & Kin, we tried some kids’ craft box services, thinking they would make it easier to create with our kids. But we found the boxes either too wasteful or too focused on kids’ craft staples involving popsicle sticks and toilet paper rolls. We wanted a product focused on helping kids (and parents) create art projects that they could display in their homes with pride. When we didn’t find what we wanted, we created it.Kith & Kin provides creativity-focused D.I.T. kits that make beautiful, useful art projects that parents and children can enjoy creating together. Heather I am the parent of a beautiful 4 year old boy. He drives me to create more and to experience life with renewed energy and enthusiasm. I’m also a musician. I sing and play the guitar. My parenting and my love of music intersect often; my son and I spend a lot of time in impromptu jam sessions. We are also both willing to try to play any instrument we can get our hands on (admittedly, with mixed results!). The time we spend exploring and creating music together helps us connect and allows him to experience art in ways that are kid-friendly and fun. My love for music spills over into my philanthropic life, too. I am a co-founder of Girls Rock Camp ATL, a non-profit dedicated to empowering girls and women through music education, creative expression, and performance. Also in keeping with my love for the arts, I serve as a board member of the Decatur Arts Alliance. Melissa I am a food and drink junkie. So much creative potential lies in cooking, crafting drinks, and baking. I am passionate about creating and embracing unique culinary experiences. I am also quite fortunate to be the bonus parent to a delightful 5 year old little girl. She often accompanies me on my varied art explorations. I carve stamps and screenprint. I practice calligraphy. I paint. I sew. I find tremendous value in creating art. I believe that teaching children that they can create art—and then creating with them—enhances their self-worth, helps them understand themselves and the world around them and forges a lasting bond between parent and child.
