FPV Drone Racing on the DRC Challenge Course

What is FPV Drone Racing?
First Person View (FPV) Drone Racing combines several different technologies such as a drone (Multi-rotor helicopter or fixed wing plane), remote control, live video, micro controllers, and a variety of different sensors. This allows the operator of the drone to fly the aircraft with precision in close proximity to the ground, usually below the tree line or less than 100 feet, and around obstacles via live video feed to FPV goggles or a monitor. The pilot literally has the point of view of the pilot’s “cockpit” aboard the drone.

The Pilot Experience:
Flying an FPV drone is a truly immersive experience for the operator/pilot. Drone racing is similar to the Pod Racing or Speeder Bikes flying through the woods like you’ve seen in Star Wars. FPV Drone Piloting can also give you the feeling and perspective of a bird flying through trees or obstacles.

The DRC Challenge Course Race Demonstration:
The Drone Racing Club (DRC) Atlanta will set up the speed, agility and skills challenge course which incorporates pylon flags and air-gates. Each participating pilot in each race heat will be required to complete the course circuit in as little time as possible while making it through the air-gate obstacles.

The Spectator Experience:
The DRC will have a spectator area which will include TVs/monitors and some FPV goggles which will display a pilot’s first person view (FPV) video feed live so the spectator gets the same immersive experience and can see what the pilot sees.

Q & A Booth:
People of all ages are welcome to ask questions about how to get started in this new and ever expanding sport/hobby of flying and racing FPV Drones. Although anyone can learn to pilot an FPV Drone, Drone piloting is a natural transition for already avid gamers that are accustomed to two-stick controllers.
